An essential instrument for the realization of self-portraits before photography, the mirror in painting has long been used to evoke the notions of narcissism, the ephemeral, knowledge, precision, philosophical meditation.
But above all, the mirror opens up the space of the painting, questioning the mimetic power of painting.
What about the moderns who refuse illusionism? Are the contemporaries who seized on real mirrors still within the tradition?
We will try to reflect in images on these many questions.

The conference will be held at the 6MIC (Salle des Musiques Actuelles du Pays d’Aix), located at the entrance to the new district of Constance in Aix-en-Provence, a few hundred meters from the Vasarely Foundation, at the level of the chemin Hawthorns.
