A conference by Agnès Ghenassia,
Plastic arts and music
With the representation of musicians and instruments, music was initially a formal theme for painters. At the start of the 20th century, it was by relying on music that the pioneers of abstraction took the plunge, and simultaneously, avant-garde composers renewed their language through the confrontation with these painters, highlighting numerous correspondences structural. From the 1950s, it was an open-ended vision of art that the artists of the Fluxus movement imposes, organizing both plastic and musical events, and the very writing of musical scores evolves into “graphic scores”. But above all, they are stories of families and friendships, they are plastic artists and musicians. Musicians painters who have opened up an infinite field of renewal and invention, with a common goal: the expression of emotions.
